Fox Mandal @ GrowthHack 2015
GrowthHack, the annual Entrepreneurship Summit organized by CII’s Yi (Young India) wing was held at Bangalore on September 25th and 26th. 300+ delegates from across the country benefited from the insights shared by successful entrepreneurs representing different “generations” of Indian entrepreneurship.
Rajnish Pal, who advises start-ups and funds, was part of a GrowthHack 2015 panel that discussed the legal framework for start-ups in India. He explained why it is important for start-ups to adequately factor legal and tax considerations right at the early stages of the entity’s existence (something that most entrepreneurs do not do, viewing it just as a compliance overhead and a necessary evil). In this context, he explained why structuring a start-up as a private limited company is the best option under current Indian laws. He also touched upon the growing debate around start-ups shifting to overseas jurisdictions such as Singapore or Delaware (USA): are such decisions primarily driven by tax advantages or are they based on more strategic considerations such as target markets, investment environment, ease of doing business etc?
