Uttar Pradesh cabinet comes out with New Sports Policy 2023

In a cabinet meeting held on March 10, 2023, the Uttar Pradesh cabinet approved the new Sports Policy, 2023. The policy envisages the promotion of sports infrastructure development by entering into Public Private Partnerships, setting up a state sports authority, state sports development fund and 14 centres of excellence and extending support to sports athletes, associations, etc.

Further, players will be provided with the necessary training, health insurance of up to Rs. 5 lakh and funds to cover expenses of the treatment availed for injuries sustained on the field. For training purposes, three categories of players are contemplated under the policy.

The policy lays emphasis on the participation of women players, making available adequate sports facilities in rural areas, constituting sports centres in each of the State’s districts, advancement of e-sports and indigenous sports, etc.
