TN Football Association: Challenge Against Administrative Committee Dismissed

In an order dated February 12, 2024, the Supreme Court dismissed the special leave petitions challenging the decision to constitute an administrative committee to manage the affairs of the Tamil Nadu Football Association.[1]

The Madras High Court, vide a common judgment dated September 20, 2023, constituted the said committee under the chairmanship of Justice AK Rajan (Retd) and four members, including R Basheer Ahamed, Harjinder Singh, Stalin Abhimanyu and Kanimozhi Mathi. This temporary measure was said to be in place until a new administrative body was elected and approved by the Court.

As the said decision was a consent order, the Supreme Court held the present petitions to be an abuse of process of law. The Court imposed a cost of Rs.50,000.00, to be personally payable by petitioner nos. 2 to 7 within a period of four weeks. On failure to do so, suo motu contempt proceedings were directed to be listed.
