On March 23, 2023, Sportradar Integrity Services issued a report on “Betting, Corruption and Match-fixing in 2022” revealing a 34% increase in suspicious matches in 2022.

After scrutinizing more than 8 lakh matches within 12 sports from 92 countries, it was discovered that as many as 1,212 suspicious matches took place in 2022, including 775 suspicious soccer matches and 220 suspicious basketball matches. Out of this number, 438 suspicious matches were identified using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology. Such statistics reflect a 34% increase in suspicious matches when compared to those that occurred in 2021. The highest number of such matches took place in Europe.

However, the report assures that the percentage of suspicious matches hasn’t exceeded 1% in any specific sport category and the threats to sporting integrity such as match-fixing, betting, etc. did not reach 99.5% of the sports competitions or events.
