In an order dated July 17, 2023, the Supreme Court in the case of Indian Olympic Association v. Union of India & Ors. [SLP(C) No.14533/2022] extended the time to file objections to the draft constitution of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) by a period of two weeks.
The said draft was prepared under the supervision of the former Judge of the Apex Court, Justice L. Nageswara Rao, who was entrusted with the task of amending the IOA’s constitution last year.
The Division Bench of Chief Justice of India, D.Y. Chandrachud, Justice Pamidighantam Sri Narasimha and Justice Manoj Misra decided to provide the extension to give a final opportunity to any party who wishes to file objections. The objections have to be sent to the Additional Solicitor General, KM Nataraj, who is required to combine all of the objections as per the court’s order dated April 5, 2023, and submit a tabulated statement before the court.
It was clarified that the pendency of the present proceedings would not stay any of the other proceedings that may be pending before the High Courts pertaining to other sports federations in the country.
The matter will be heard next on August 11, 2023.
