Russian Olympic Committee Files Appeal Against IOC Suspension

The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) has filed an appeal before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) challenging its suspension by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) via a decision dated October 12, 2023.

The said suspension was imposed on account of a breach of the Olympic Charter following ROC’s unilateral decision to include certain regional sports organisations as its members, which fall under the jurisdiction of Ukraine’s National Olympic Committee (NOC). Such a decision is said to have infringed upon the territorial integrity of Ukraine’s Olympic Committee, which consequently was in violation of the Olympic Charter.

In this appeal, it has been requested that the IOC’s decision be set aside, and the appellant be reinstated as a NOC recognised by the IOC. The arbitration proceedings have commenced, and after holding a hearing, the Panel will arrive at a decision on the matter.
