NCPA Files Antitrust Complaint Against NCAA

The National College Players Association (NCPA) has filed a complaint with the U.S. Justice Department against the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) for violating antitrust laws by capping compensation to athletes. The suit intends to pursue civil and criminal charges against individuals dealing with athlete compensation.

The NCAA is the governing body that deals with collegiate sports in the United States. The suit claims it is a predatory economic cartel that limits college athletes’ freedom by imposing many restrictions. The present lawsuit seeks uniform rules and regulation of name, image, and likeness in payments for college sports. NCPA had also approached Congress about creating a federal law on the subject.
