NADA Reduces Sanctions of Athletes for Admitting to Doping

The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) has announced that 11 sportspersons, including 3 National Games participants, have been given reduced sanctions after they admitted to their offence within 20 days of being charged.

The Goa National Games were held between October 25 to November 9 last year after a seven-year delay. The dope samples of more than 20 athletes came back positive, after which NADA issued provisional suspension to the offenders.

Initially, a four-year ban was set to be imposed on the offenders, but the same has been reduced to three years for those who admitted the violation and accepted the penalty within 20 days of being charged in accordance with Article 10.8.1 of the NADA Anti-Doping Rules.

The three National Games participants who have been handed reduced sanctions include track and field athletes Kamljeet Kaur, Ajay Kumar and Harjodhvir Singh. The ban is said to commence from the date of their provisional suspension, i.e., December 6, 2023.
