HC Disposes Plea Alleging Disparity in Ticket Price for ICC World Cup Match

In an order dated October 19, 2023, the Allahabad High Court disposed of a public interest litigation plea alleging disparities in the ticket prices set for the World Cup matches to be held at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.[1]

The respondents averred that a grievance redressal mechanism as per the Articles of Association of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the U.P. Cricket Association (UPCA) was in place. Under this mechanism, a complaint could be filed before the Ombudsman in case of grievances pertaining to ticketing, access and facilities at the cricket stadium. Hence, it was contended that the petitioners could submit their grievances to the said authority. It was also argued that the ticket price was reasonable, having regard to availability and demand and was on par with other stadiums in the country.

Considering that a grievance redressal mechanism was already in place, the Allahabad High Court proceeded to dispose of the public interest litigation plea.
