Google Play Introduces Pilot Program for Gaming Apps in India

Google Play is carrying out a pilot program to allow Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS), Rummy and other gaming apps to be featured on its Play Store. According to Google’s Play Store policies, real-money gaming apps are prohibited from being featured on Google Play in India.

Starting September 28, 2022, the pilot will allow local app developers to build and design applications that could be successful in the Indian market, given the growing interest in the gaming industry.

Google Play has agreed to adhere to the local laws and regulations in states like Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana, where real-money games have been banned. Google will also require authorised ownership licenses to ensure that only individuals over 18 years of age can play such games.

Along with this, customer support and grievance redressal mechanisms would also be provided in accordance with Google Play’s policies applicable to the program. Recently, Google banned Paytm First Games for not following its platform policy, which does not allow gambling.

Many companies that promote skill-based online games hailed this change to the platform. With the availability of games on such a large platform, more players may be interested in pursuing online gaming.
