In an order dated February 14, 2023, the Supreme Court appointed former SC Judge L Nageswara Rao as head of the single-member committee to look after the holding of elections in the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA). The association has been directed to provide the necessary assistance and bear the expenses as well.
In 2022, the Apex Court appointed four members to the Supervisory Committee headed by former Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court, Nisar Ahmed Kakru. The committee was tasked with supervising the management of the affairs of the HCA.
In the present case, a Special Leave Petition (SLP) was filed by HCA before the Supreme Court challenging the decision of the Telangana High Court dated April 6, 2021. A division bench of Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Justice Manoj Misra and Justice Aravind Kumar stated, “We have already opined that the Supervisory Committee will not function any more, and so far as the issue of signing power is concerned, Justice L. Nageswara Rao will also deal with that”.
