Recently, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that the fantasy sports platform Dream 11 would be the lead sponsor for the Indian cricket team for a period of three years. Team India jerseys will sport Dream 11, beginning with the Test series against the West Indies.
Earlier, the Board invited bids from sponsors to secure the lead sponsorship rights for the national cricket team. This announcement was made after the Board’s contract with the ed-tech company BYJU’S ended. Through the press release, the following brands were banned from bidding for the lead sponsorship rights: –
- Athleisure and Sportswear Manufacturer;
- Alcohol Products;
- Betting;
- Cryptocurrency;
- Real Money Gaming (Except Fantasy Sports Gaming);
- Tobacco; and
- one which is likely to offend public morals such as, including but not limited to pornography.
