DPIIT Issues SOP for Cancellation of IEM Acknowledgements

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has come out with a standard operating procedure for the cancellation of Industrial Entrepreneur Memorandum (IEM) acknowledgements.

An IEM needs to be filed with the Secretariat of Industrial Assistance, by those industrial undertakings which are exempt from obtaining an industrial licence under the Industrial (Development and Regulation) Act, 1951. Thereafter, an IEM acknowledgement is issued, confirming receipt of the information.

The Office Memorandum dated January 2, 2024, states that for cancellation of IEM acknowledgement, the applicant has to submit a request letter on the company’s letterhead signed by the authorised officer, along with a copy of the original IEM. The said letter has to mention the reasons for cancellation. When it comes to amendment in Part B IEM acknowledgements, the request letter should contain the reasons for the changes. If a duplicate copy of the IEM is requested, the letter has to be accompanied by an undertaking stating that such copy would be surrendered if the original document is found in the future.

The amendment will be done, and the cancellation letter and duplicate copy will be issued upon getting approval from the concerned Additional Secretary or Joint Secretary.
