In an order dated March 14, 2023, the Delhi High Court in Manju Rani & Ors v. Boxing Federation of India and Others [WP(C) 2860/2023] dismissed the application for interim relief filed by the women boxers. It held that there was no basis for it to interfere with the selection of boxers for the Women’s World Boxing Championship, 2023.
The national boxing champions, Manju Rani, Shiksha Narwal, and Poonam Poonia, filed a writ petition before the Delhi High Court challenging the rejection of their candidature for participation in the said championship. After hearing the parties and examining the players’ medal tally and evaluation forms, the court decided that the selection process does not reflect any arbitrariness and that the team that has been selected should be allowed to represent India.
