AIFF signs MoU with LNIPE to set up the Centre of Referees’ Excellence

The AIFF seeks to establish five Centres of Referees’ Excellence (CORE) in the country to provide training to referees and drive the youth to pursue a career in refereeing as set forth under ‘Vision 2047’. In consonance with the same, the country’s first such Centre will be set up at Lakshmana National Institute of Physical Education (LNIPE), Gwalior. To facilitate the setting up of the CORE, the AIFF has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with LNIPE.

It has been recognised that there is an insufficient number of games for referees to develop professionally, and the profession of refereeing is not financially sustainable in the long run. The CORE will receive training and support from the AIFF and the states. Furthermore, the parties have agreed to collaborate and conduct studies to understand exercise physiology and biomechanical and psychological aspects of football. The exchange programmes will also be available to the personnel and students to promote football games.
