The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has signed an MoU with Lakshmibai National College of Physical Education (LNCPE), Trivandrum, on February 14, 2023, to aid towards the development of Centre for Referees Excellence (CORE), Coach Education, Research and Sports Science. The Memorandum was signed in consonance with Vision 2047, which was released after receiving inputs from key stakeholders, including the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and Federation Internationale De Football Association (FIFA). The mission, according to AIFF, is to bring football to the masses, foster excellence and bring about social change. Moreover, this endeavour aligns with the plan to redefine, rebrand and restructure Indian Football.
According to Dr Prabhakaran, Secretary General of the AIFF, the collaboration will aid the development of football as the institute has “the right facilities and resources to contribute to the development of referees, coaches, sports science and other allied areas”.
